One of the big draws for visitors to this park is the Ribault Club, a 1920s style resort. The history, however, dates back at least 5000 years before the club was established. Hiking and biking are popular activities on this island.
This is a mile-long fishing bridge that accesses one of Florida's most sought after fishing areas. There is a bait and tackle shop that sells lures, rents rods and reels, and also sells snacks, drinks and sandwiches. Located near Amelia Island State Park, which is the entrance to Nassau Sound Fishing Pier State Park.
The collection at Cummer Museum has grown from 60 pieces upon opening in 1961 to now include approximately 8000 years of art history. The formal gardens encompass two acres and include English-style and Italian gardens. Tours are available.
Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve protects 46,000 acres of unspoiled coastal wetlands-one of the last such regions on the Atlantic Coast. Also preserved here are historic and prehistoric sites.
Fort Caroline National Memorial, located within Timucuan Preserve, presents a two-thirds scale model of 16th-century Fort Caroline. The original fort was a French property established in 1564 and captured by the Spanish in 1565.
Yellow Bluff Fort Historic State Park is set on land that was an important camp during the Civil War, and was alternately occupied by both sides throughout that struggle. Open 24 hours, there is no fee for entrance to this park.
Tree Hill was founded in the 1970's to provide environmental awareness and education to the public. A series of exhibits are displayed in the museum. The gardens feature butterflies, hummingbirds, herbs, organic vegetables and a bog garden. Swamps, gardens and nature trails can be enjoyed throughout the park.
Located about 20 miles east of Jacksonville, Big Talbot Island is one of the last undeveloped sea islands in Florida. This is a good park for hiking, boating and picnicking.
Metropolitan Park & Marina, located in downtown Jacksonville, is a recreational facility with full docking facilities, picnic areas, children's play areas and a 2400 square-foot stage.
This park is a 2,500-acre barrier island on the northeast coast of Florida. There are five miles of beachfront, salt marshes and sand dunes, all of which give visitors the opportunity to observe the animals and plants of the park in their natural state. Located about 20 miles from Jacksonville, FL.
